Trend Alert – Neon Neon Neon!!!

Prada Spring 2011 Ready to Wear Collection

The neon trend seems to be back in the game and this time, bolder and louder, or maybe it always has been, as seen from the Prada Spring 2011 Ready to Wear collection. As for this year, there was a playful mixture of neon hues and patterns present on the runways. Jonathan Saunders was definitely amongst one of my fave runways for the neon trend, and i loved how he played around with color, pattern, and fabric.

As i was searching for some neon runway photos, i came across a few designer brands that i’ve not heard of and i have to say, they did an amazing job with the bright neon look, especially Nanette Lepore. There was a strong presence of neon yellow and neon orange in her collection and the color contrast is a very refreshing and up to beat approach, just perfect for the upcoming Spring. The neon orange and lilac lips were also a great finishing touch on the models.

For me, this look definitely takes me back to the 80’s where it screams neon all over the place but it’s fairly easy to create a more toned down look, just by matching neon with neutral toned fabrics. In fact, you can take baby steps to experiment this trend by using neon accessories, such as a bag or a pair of heels.
I actually just went to H&M over the weekend and snatched a gorgeous looking neon orangy top so i’ll be trying out the neon look in no time! I saw a lot of the whole neon look going on so be quick, check out your local H&M shops immediately.

Trend Alert 2011 recap

As we bid our farewells to 2011 and look forward to a fabulous and fashionable year ahead in 2012, i thought it would be a bittersweet moment to recap back on all the trend alerts spotted over the past twelve months.

Twelve months of fashion may not sound too short or too long but we definitely captured some of the best and unforgettable trends out there! And for some reason, i won’t be surprised at all, if history repeats itself with any of the following fashion trends.

Which fashion trend alerts were your favorite in 2011?

Trend Alert – the cape talk

As the weather continues to get colder by the day, there more i’ve been tempted to get my hands on a cape! I’ve never owned a cape in my life but i seriously think i’ve caught the cape fever!!! Lately I started noticing a lot of ladies walking on the streets in gorgeous capes and not to mention, you can hide your hands inside and keep them really warm. A dual functional trend, what’s not to like about that eh?!?!!

I know the cape trend, just like any fashion trend, has been recycled numerous times and showcased on the runway shows dating back to even 2006 at the Ralph Lauren’s Ready To Wear collection but i simply don’t care. There’s even been a new take on for the cape look recently as witnessed at the Spring 2011 Ready to Wear Collections, where the capes are made in softer and lighter materials such as silk or chiffon, to give it that spring and breezy feeling.  Designers such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Jean Paul Gaultier, are amongst some of the brands that have taken on this new cape look, and i have to say, i love this fresh approach for the cape trend!

Another twist to the cape look, which i find a tad bit weird, is the transparent cape as shown at the Burberry Fall 2011 runway show. I guess it would be a fun thing to try but that’s about it! I also just came across an editorial as shown below, where the capes  are in leather and this is a first for me! I’ve not seen capes in leather before but i quite like it, and it gives this very chic and edgy style to it.

Yes, i’m sold on this trend! Old fashion or fashion savvy, i say this is a must try look for this winter!

Soo……are you a cape lover or hater?

Are you feeling the wedge?

As we draw closer to summer by the day, and as my feet wiggles anxiously to get ready to show case to the world, i suddenly have a super strong urge to buy some WEDGES!!!! Yes, it’s getting warmer and i can finally say adios to my booties, thank god!!!!

Wedges are seen everywhere at the moment where i’ve spotted it in Aldo, Nine West, Steven Madden, and etc. I normally don’t buy wedges as i’ve got super skinny legs and so the wedges would just look gigantic on me. But there is one trick and i guess maybe you ladies have tried it too. I  tend to cover my wedges with  flared jeans to cover my skinny legs whilst giving me height. The only down fall about this? You don’t get to see the full design  of the wedge! Yep, it’s not a two way thing in this situation eh? lol.   Anyhow, i’ve decided to give wedges a go again because they are just so perfect for this weather!!!

Trend Alert: Stripe me up!

This Spring/Summer 2011 trend will be bringing your wardrobe with a lot of fun stripes!!! I find this trend super cute and very versatile. It’s a similar trend to the Nautical Stripes that we saw in 2010 but we are definitely seeing more colors in the combination this year.

I’m especially loving the flowy stripe dresses as shown in the photos below from the cats walks of  Jil Sander, Prada, Sonia Rykiel, and etc . It’s a feminine style that carries a fun twist to it, and the vibrant colors are perfect for the warmer seasons approaching soon. Or you can also go for a more laid back look by tucking a stripe tee in shorts and pair with comfy flats.

So what ya waiting for?!?!?! Go test your fashion limits and play around with this fun stripey trend, be it striped dresses, skirts, tops, or jumpsuits, and have a cool summer;)
