Happy Valentines Day

It is that time of the year again. Valentines Day. That time where the expression of love is stronger than ever. Everywhere i go, there are couples to my left and right, where all the gestures of Valentines is clearly visible. The sweet sight of hugs, giggles, and smiles being exchanged, and roses being handed to their other half as they plant a tender kiss on those soft lips, of whom shall be their one and only Valentine. As a singleton myself, it is this day where i am reminded that there is still true love out there for everyone. It is only a matter of when and where. And i always believe that if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.

14

And as i witness couples walking hand in hand, i smile to myself knowing i’ll be reuniting with my girlfriends for some fun time tonight. It’s a Valentines night for my single ladies who will be enjoying some delicious Japanese food, exotic cocktails, and scrumptious chocolate chip  cookie with vanilla ice cream. The night is still young as they say…

May you all have a happy Valentines day no matter who you spend it with!

Love is…

It’s another typical Monday blues moment for me and to top it off, i am still recovering from my flu and sore throat. Sadly the work was piling up at work, where i had to work over time for an hour today, and then rain greeted me as i bid farewell to my office building. Could it get any worse, i asked myself?

loveThen a thought popped to my mind. It only stays as crap as you want it to be if you let it. So what other better way to combat horrible Monday blues than embracing the ever biggest word that we all need and look for (and sometimes take for granted), and yes my friend, that would be LOVE. What would we do or be without you? Love is a bizarre feeling. It’s that feeling where you feel butterflies in your tummy during your very first kiss, you smile nonstop knowing what special friends you have as they pick you up during your lowest point in life, such as during a painful break up, or it could be a simple gesture of saying “i love you” to a very special someone.

Here are a few simple gestures that i want to share with you all as a reminder just how easy it is to show your love. And guess what? It’s never too late to do so…Hopefully this will help brighten your Monday Blues if you happen to have one today.

1. Just a simple hug and that’s all it takes to show your love for someone.

hugs

2. It can be as easy as buying some pretty cookies for your colleagues at work.

heart cookies

3. Get personal and write a love letter to your other half, instead of the usual SMS or whatsapp message.

love letters

4. Smiling is an infectious way to spread the love. You be surprised at how much better you feel even if you smile to yourself during a bad day.

Smile

5. Spend some quality girls time and enjoy a round of cocktails after work, where you pour your heart out and vent to each other. It’s the kind of love known as true friendship.

Cocktails

6. Don’t worry about being sappy and watch your fave romance movie (“the Note Book” comes to my mind) at home, and get some tissues ready. Some tears of joy and sorrow are bound to be shed, just like in the real world of love.

What’s your way of showing your appreciation to your loved ones?

October Love 2013

Oct Love 2013My first time to try liquid nitrogen ice cream, where i excitedly waited for my sea salt caramel ice cream as the fog slowly started flooding out from the ice cream blender. Getting my health back on track and starting my mornings with oatmeal mixed with fresh fruits, and drizzled with a bit of maple syrup. Enjoying a chilled Friday night at Wagyu Lounge over steak and wine for a dear friend’s birthday.

A belated joint birthday dinner for my friend and I at a cosy Italian restaurant, Assaggio Trattoria Italiana, where four girls enjoyed  a night of great food and company, and laughed the night away. Fell in love with theses lovely color blocking heels, which were calling my name to take them home and that’s just what i did. My lovely sister being ever as sweet and supplying me with my fave glossy fashion magazines.

The joys of discovering a new cupcake shop, Kisses Cupcakes, while going home from work. Each bite of the Baileys Chocolate cupcake was slowly savored while it lasted. Lazing on weekends while down with the flu and watching one of my fave old American series, Sex and the City. I have almost forgotten how good and funny SATC used to be. The peacefulness of enjoying lunch by myself,  as i ordered a Japanese pork ramen and gyoza (Japanese dumplings).

I am blessed for each and every day that was filled with love, fun, laughters, and sharing special moments with people i love and care for. You are my October Love 2013.

Ten Ways To Manage A Bad Day

We have all been there. We wake up early in the morning while savoring ever minute that there is to possibly savor, from that lovely snooze. As you get out of a bed, a sense of grumpiness overrides you for no apparent reason. Sometimes we have one of those bad days where everything we do just doesn’t feel right.

bad day

For me, that is particularly true when i come back from a long holiday or long weekend and have to get back to reality, the so called “real world”. In fact, i just had a long weekend as there was a public holiday (Chinese Chung Yeung Festival) on Monday. And trust me, I was not the happiest person when the thought of work came to mind.

Although i always believe that it’s important to remember to see the best in things during the worst in times. I truly think that is the key to having a balance life, especially during the hectic life styles that we live in nowadays. Actions speak louder than words, and with that, I have made a list of my top 10 tips for you to try in order to combat those bad days. Hope they help!

1. Embrace the sunshine

20131016-224712.jpg

There is nothing better than to enjoy what nature has to offer. Sometimes we get so caught up with life that we forget to appreciate the simplest things in life, such as the warm sunshine that beams brightly onto our face to greet us a good morning.

2.Get a morning coffee fix

coffee

The morning coffee fix is a great and fast way to to battle your mornings ahead and to feel awake, thanks to caffeine! Although not the best and healthiest option, I will allow myself a cappuccino or latte on mornings where i’m super low on energy and need that kick start. For non coffee drinkers, i suggest a hot chocolate drink or herbal tea as alternative options.

3. Appreciate loved ones

love

I constantly remind myself of how grateful i am to have friends and families around that love me, and are always there for me. Try to stand still and notice your surroundings and you will find love everywhere. It could be that journey to work on a Monday morning, and you witness an old couple sharing a brisk morning walk while hand in hand, being ever as in love, just like that very first time they set their eyes on each other. It is these emotional moments that gets to me and makes me appreciate life and the power of love even more.

4. Call a good friend just because…

phone

We are constantly caught up with our own things that we sometimes forget friends that we haven’t spoken to in a while. We keep saying we will contact them soon and before you know it, another few months or even a year has gone by. So go ahead and just give that good friend a call, even if it is just to say “hi”. I assure you that your friend will be happy to hear from you and that you cared enough to call. And who knows, you might have saved two people from a bad day, and that is definitely worthwhile.

5. Listen to your favorite tunes on the go

music

Pop on your headphones and select your favorite song and enjoy the moment. It’s amazing how music can change the mood for people, and that each music and beat is a different experience for every individual. As i once heard from someone, without music in the world then it would be like we are not living life.

6. Remember to smile

smile

A smile will always take you far spiritually, if not physically. And good news for the singletons, smiling is also a physical attraction for some men and women. As research has found, a smile can be contagious and what better natural remedy to fix a bad day than having sharing a great smile?

7. Get out of the office and read a book over lunch

books

Take a break from the office and go out for some fresh air. Enjoy your lunch in a cafe or restaurant and enjoy a good book. It’s always good to give yourself a break from your desk and computer. Your mind and body will thank you for it.

8. Have a great work out

gym

Get into your gym gear and get moving. Exercising releases endorphins, the happy hormones, which gives you that “feel good” factor and a natural high. Of course, even better, you are closer to getting that body shape that you been wanting. So not only do you feel good but you look good too. It’s a win win situation!

9. Arrange a chilled night out with friends

friends

Try to be spontaneous and call out some close friends to enjoy a chilled night out. It can be a catch up over drinks, dinner, or even to the cinema for a comedy for a good laugh. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy because as long as you are in good company, you will have a fun time where nothing else matters.

10. Indulge in your favorite guilty pleasures

macarons

Dont’ be too harsh on yourself and allow one guilty pleasure every now and then, especially on a bad day. The key is to enjoy everything in life in moderation and that way, you will enjoy each moment that much more.

September Love 2013

Sept Love 2013Catching up with an old friend over red wine at Al Pasha, while I watched the sparkling lights decorated on the trees from a distance, just like small shiny stars smiling back at me.  BFF being ever as sweet and surprised me with a birthday cake during our afternoon brunch at the Cafe Gray Deluxe Hong Kong. A sunny day was the start to a lovely lunch buffet with the family at the Royal Garden Hotel, as my brother and sister were in town. The endless row of delicious blueberry cheesecake, mousse cake, hazelnut chocolate cake, pies, mochis, ice cream, and chocolate fondue was enough to get me hyped up.

Taking the ferry from Central Star Ferry to lamma island with a friend for a short get away from the busy city. The trees, beaches, ocean, and slow walks around the island are some of the favored activities whenever i go to this island. Mid Autumn festival had arrived, where beautiful lanterns were displayed across the city and moon cakes were visible everywhere. My gorgeous and stylish birthday gift from my two BFFs,  a Marc by Marc Jacobs leopard print scarf, is surely to keep me warm throughout the winter days.

Discovering a new Italian restaurant with my brother, sister, and some friends in Tsim Sha Tsui. The night was filled with endless laughters as red wine was poured into the glasses, and it almost felt like everything was singing in a symphony. A cross over between Garfield and Panda figures caught my attention in the shopping mall and it’s such random creative things that brings out the character of this city. Going on an adventure after work and changed to a new route to the train station, and only to find what beauty that awaited me. The night view of Hong Kong seen from another angle. Sometimes change can be good after all.

I am blessed for each and every day that was filled with love, fun, laughters, and sharing special moments with people i love and care for. You are my September Love 2013.

My birthday celebration

Birthdays are always one of my favorite celebrations in the year, both for loved ones and myself. It’s a time where friends and families are gathered together over delicious food, drinks, and a lot of laughters. It is also special moments like these that reminds us of how grateful we are for what we have.

birthday cake

This year i have been very blessed to have yet another lovely birthday celebration with my dear friends and families, where the celebration took place over the entire month with great food, company, and a lot of great memories. There was a mix cuisine of American, Italian, Japanese, British, Spanish, and some lovely birthday surprises in between. I’m sooooo thankful for everyone that is in my life right here right now, and i’m truly touched by my dear friends who know me so well, and purposely prepared the surprises with birthday cakesand gifts. I know it sounds cheesy with the birthday surprises and all but i just can’t help it, lol.

It was a chilled Friday night on September 6, just a day before my special day, where a sleep over at BFF’s place was organized so we could kick start my birthday in style the next day. As BFF took an early morning hike up to the peak, i lied in bed until the warm sun from the window beamed in and touched my face. It was a beautiful day and i couldn’t have asked for anything else better that morning. BFF and i both quickly got dressed and went downstairs and hopped into the closes cab within our sight. I asked “where are we going?” and she replied with a smiling face “it’s a surprise”, and i couldn’t help but feeling all giddy inside. As we approached Admiralty and drove up to the JW Marriott Hotel, i had a good feeling we were headed to Cafe Gray Deluxe Hong Kong, and i was right. We were greeted by a smiling receptionist who got our names down and ushered us to a table in the middle of the restaurant.

IMG_6911

Cafe Gray had a cosy ambiance with wooden decor against the lovely dangling chandeliers high above us, and the magnificent window view of the Kowloon area and ocean from a distant. I ordered one of my fave dishes, the Cafe Gray Black Angus burger in caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, tomato confit and some batter diped fries, and BFF had her fave eggs benedicts. It was a really relaxing afternoon where there was not a care in the world or a rush to go anywhere. We finished the meal by having a cuppa cappuccino where complimentary chocolates were given as well, much to my surprise. We slowly gobbled down the chocolates and without any warning, a waiter appeared from behind me holding a plate with a dessert on it that had “happy birthday skat” written in chocolate sauce. I was beyond speechless and the only visible sign I had was this big happy smile and touched look on my face. It was a delicious banoffee cake with rum raisin ice cream and it was orgasmic, to say the least, lol. My BFF has always been there for me and she’s just the sweetest and most understanding friend one can ask for. She’s been there for my good times and bad times and vice versa of course, and it’s truly a blessing to have her there celebrating my special day with me.

The rest of the afternoon was spent over some retail therapy where I went to Calvin Klein for some long due new lingeries, and a quick stop over to Zara and H&M for some light shopping spree. Following that night, dinner was arranged at this steak house called “Steik World Meats” in Tsim Sha Tsui, where BFF had invited Ben to come along. Ben was such a sweet heart and got me a box of my fave Laduree macarons and i just couldn’t wait to get my hands on those delicious and beautiful looking sweet treats. We spent the entire night just slowing savoring our food and sipping on red wine, where the night gradually ended at Vibes over more wine and some birthday shots.

As we entered the door to BFF’s flat, i quickly kicked off my 4 inch heels and jumped onto her bed and was falling asleep. Little did i know, another surprise was coming my way. BFF told me to come to the living room and there she stood with her slightly tipsy face, and was holding these two mini but oh so cute birthday cakes, a tiramisu and mango/strawberry flavored one. With the appetite of a horse at such late hours, most likely due to the slight over drinking, we finished the cakes rather quickly. To end the night, i finally got to open my present and it was this lovely Marc by Marc Jacobs scarf with leopard print that my two BFFs had gotten me. I would say it was the perfect ending to the night for my birthday.

Surprises were definitely up in the air for my birthday this year. Mr. A just happened to be in town on the week of my birthday and offered to take me to the peak. His big and friendly smile was just the same as i last remembered, and it was really nice to see him again.

It was a sunny weekend where the day started with some delicious Japanese ramen and gyoza (pan fried dumplings) before we started our journey to the peak. After a much fulfilled lunch, we slowly paced ourselves to the Tsim Sha Tsui star ferry where we would take the ferry to cross over to HK island. Upon arrival, we caught the bus 15C that did not have a roof, which made it a fun and touristy ride for me, as i looked high above the sky scrapers and scenic view of Hong Kong. A walk around the peak whilst enjoying the greenery and sipping on coffee over chit chats at the local cafe, while overseeing the view of Hong Kong, made me remember what it was like to enjoy the moment.

IMG_0700

the peak

We decided to have dinner at Pearl on the Peak, especially as i’ve heard quite good reviews of this restaurant. As we arrived to the front door, we were quickly escorted by a friendly staff who seated us to a table that was facing the entire view of Hong Kong. We both ordered the wagyu steak as we are such steak lovers, along with two glasses of red wine. The red wine was completely divine and complimented just right with the juicy steak. I ordered the organy flavored crepe with orange ice cream for dessert, where the chef made it live, right in front of my very own eyes. It was an interesting and different experience to see how my dessert came into fruition, where flames came into vision after the cognac was gently poured over the orange, and slowly simmered on the pan.

The night ended with a quiet stroll around the peak where we embraced all that the nature had to offer. There was also this cute giant heart stand where lovers would write messages on this heart paper provided for free, and they would eternalize their love by hanging the message on the heart. One could say it’s a cheesy doing but i kinda think it’s a sweet gesture if you’ve found the one.

As the time ticked away and it got closer to closing time, we took the next peak tram and headed back down, where we took one more glance of the beautiful Hong Kong night view. It was a very cosy, or as the Danes say it, “hyggeligt” night, and a nice way to end my birthday at the peak.

Blogcation…

notebook

Just a quick note that i’ll be taking a break from blogging (aka blogcation/blog vacation) for about two weeks as my brother and sister, and her boyfriend, will be in town visiting. I actually just picked up my sister and her boyfriend from the airport this afternoon and it was sooo nice to see them again!!!

I will be taking 4 days off from work during their stay here and the upcoming schedule already looks like it will be a fun filled adventure, with a lot of site seeing and eating!

In the mean time, hope everyone is doing great and i’ll be back real soon…

August Love 2013

Aug Love 2013

Take away sashimi rice and an ice cold peach drink are the best lunch options for those lazy weekends, and of course, catching up on my fashion mags. Being bombarded by all these different Japanese branded mascaras at the cosmetic shop SaSa, and stared in admiration on their cute packaging but left empty handed. Enjoying some delish cupcakes from Sift, a cupcake shop around my office, because sometimes we just need a treat for no reason.

Family weekend trip to Sai Kung in celebration for my cousin’s new born baby girl, where seafood and sunny weather completed our day. Admiring flowers in the supermarket because they just bring a smile to my face with all the gorgeous colors and blossoms. Celebrating a good old friend’s birthday at Hooray Bar, over delicious food, wine, and great chit chats. Her birthday surprise came in the form of a tiramisu birthday dessert, which was camouflaged into this cute plant.

A busy month filled with birthdays where i still write and mail birthday cards to my nearest and dearest, such as my sister back in London and my BFF in Beijing. Put on some trainers and off i went on the running track for 5 laps to kill off the stress from a hectic week at work. A lovely ending to August before autumn arrives, over a quiet dinner at Nishiki Don in Tsim Sha Tsui, eating sashimi, sushi, and my fave plum wine , with great food and great company.

I am blessed for each and every day that was filled with love, fun, laughters, and sharing special moments with people i love and care for. You are my August Love 2013.

Change…

We go through changes constantly throughout our lives, at an never ending cycle. Change can be ones worse enemy as we are more at ease with what we are familiar with. Or it can be the best thing to happen to you. It is through change and challenges, that an individual grows as a person and overcomes their fear.

20130731-233041.jpg
Today could just be the day where I experienced the biggest change in my entire life, in terms of my career. Words cannot even describe how I feel. My manager had resigned, with this Friday being her last day. I got promoted this morning, and not only am I responsible for my department, but I have to manage and train a new staff that we hired a month ago! This new staff will be needing my guidance and she will report to me directly. I am filled with mixed emotions right now – feeling excited, scared, nervous, and doubting myself, all at the same time. The departure of my manager was immensely felt today in the office, as we went through our 3.5 hours of hand over talk and the pressure was surely on, with the given information overload. Yet, a recent friend of mine, reminded me of something very important in life and he told me ” just don’t forget that everything is difficult in the beginning”. I hold these words very close to my heart and mind during this desperate time in need. It will be a big change and challenge ahead but I know it is for the better. This is a great opportunity of a life time and I shall embrace it:)

I have not much else to say and just really wanted to share some inspirational photos with you all. I guess this is the perfect moment to express the saying that “photos speak a thousand words”.

In the city of love: Paris

As we enter July along with the hot summery season in full swing, I cannot help but keep dreaming of a getaway. It only seems like yesterday when I went to Europe with my family for my 30th birthday last September, where my parents got their first taste of Paris. It was my second time going to Paris but i think it’s fair to say that going to this lovely city just once or twice is not enough.

If you ever do go visit Paris, here are a few of my must do, see, and go to.

20130626-132147.jpg

1. Enjoying the city while eating away

Walking around the city of love, while searching for local yummy food is a must do. There is something exciting and fun about experiencing another culture through eating. On the way walking to La tour Eiffel, I noticed some food stalls that were selling these colorful twirl lollies and delicious gelato ice cream.

20130626-133716.jpg

20130703-130623.jpg

We ended up eating some not so cheap but yummy baguettes and sat on a bench in a park. The sun was beaming as we slowly savored our baguettes and we couldn’t had asked for more, considering it was suppose to be a promise of rain that day.

To no surprise, Paris had plenty of streets that were packed with bakery shops, which was absolutely paradise for me. The moment of walking into a bakery with the aroma of fresh baked goods followed by a “bonjour” is what made the experience oh so very poshly French to me. One of their worldly recognized dessert, Macaron, was definitely on my list to try as well. After all, it was in Paris where i had my first taste of macarons and i fell in love with them then and there. I could already hear Laduree and Fachoun calling my name.

20130626-191834.jpg

2. Discovering the streets of Paris in the simplest way

One of the things I love most about Paris are the art work and paintings that are displayed on the streets. My dad was so cute and bought a small painting of La tour Eiffel and said that he would frame it when we get back to Hong Kong. Sadly, this lovely painting is still in my dad’s room collecting dust and missing a lovely photo frame to accompany it, lol.

20130626-135029.jpg

20130626-135039.jpg

A stop by at the souvenir shops are a must as I love getting little gifts to myself and my friends and families back home. As i got a magnet collection for each country i visit, the Parisian themed magnets were on my top list to get. Other small gifts idea are postcards with scenic views of Paris, la tour Eiffel key chains, or other special nick nacks.

20130626-135101.jpg

Other beauties that caught my attention was this colorful and slightly worn out looking merry go around. My sister has this fascination about merry go around and so there I stood along with her and snapped a photo of it before we crossed the road. A simple form of nature such as the fallen leaves on the ground would inspire me to attempt at taking an arty photo. My turquoise flats seemed like a perfect color combo with the yellowish leaves on the ground, and was a great way to symbolize that i’ve stepped foot onto Paris. Maybe not in the most obvious way but it felt right at that moment as I took the shot.

20130626-135114.jpg

20130626-135442.jpg

3. Taking the tourist bus to get the most out of the main tourist attractions

The hop on and off bus must have been the best invention ever for tourists on visits. It’s easy and carefree and you can stop or get on wherever you want in Paris. I’ve already done all this on my first trip to Paris but taking my parents there was an entirely different and special experience.

La tour Eiffel

20130627-201303.jpg

20130627-201354.jpg

20130627-201318.jpg
Everyone who goes to Paris will inevitably visit la tour Eiffel at least once. And i got to say, I never got sick of this beautiful view for the 3 days that I stayed there. You can take photos of it from afar, up close, or like me, take a shot of it from below. This angle is amazing especially during the day time when the sun is beaming against the la tour Eiffel. If you want to be more adventurous and have time, you can walk up or take the lift up. I walked half way up this tower with a friend back in my uni days and I assure you, the view will be worth ever step.

Louvre Palace and Louvre Museum

Taking a stroll in the Louvre museum is a great and relaxing way to enjoy some art time, for those that are interested to discover the artsy side of Paris. If the weather permits, you can even try to capture beautiful shots from the outside of the Louvre Palace. The triangle glass ceiling of the Louvre museum is one of my favorite characteristics about this place.

The Palais Garnier Opera House

20130702-214500.jpg
Enjoy local ballets and opera performances if you fancy a bit of rest time while indulging to some great melodies with class. The Palais Garnier is of course, also one of the world’s most well know opera houses, that has the most beautiful yet historical architectural features to its building. Taking a photo of this beauty is a must, whether with you in the photo or not.

Notre- Dame cathedral, the Eglise du Dome church, and La Madeleine church

20130702-225227.jpg

20130702-225237.jpg

The churches and cathedrals are also worth a visit to understand more about the history of France. It’s a quiet and sacred place where you can calm your thoughts away from the busy city of Paris, and find peace momentarily. The architectural structures of these buildings are of course, of such beauty, which you can admire from a distance or in close proximity.

How would you spend your time in Paris, and which activities mentioned above is your favorite?
